Immediate Payment Services or imps is a service that is provided by banks such as HDFC to their customers on a 247 basis. The imps will allow customers to make instant , real-time transfers through different channels like mobile or internet banking. A customer of the bank can send and receive money to anyone with an IMPS-enabled bank account and to the HDFC bank customers. IMPS is an electronic fund transfer system which has been launched by national payments corporation of India (NCPI). Imps is a real time electronic fund transfer method through which the money will be credited immediately to the beneficiary account. These transfers can be done at any time, including on Sundays and other bank holidays. Through imps, interbank transfers can be easily initiated through different channels like mobile banking , internet banking, SMS, ATMs. One of the main benefits of imps transfer over NEFT and RTGS is that the service will be available round the clock. The imps service is managed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and it comes under the purview of Reserve Bank of India (RBI). For making an imps transfer through net banking , the remitter will have to register the beneficiary by providing all the details like bank account numbers, IFSC code, banks name and the branch name. Indian Financial System Code or IFSC is a 11-digit alphanumeric code which is assigned to all the bank branches by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to monitor and streamline the fund transfer process through imps.
